In a continuing effort to serve today's fast paced business world, Altair Virtual Airlines has launched "Altair Global Logistics". Our new team of dedicated staff will bring the world closer together, delivering time sensitive air freight anywhere in the world as the "Anything, Anywhere, Anytime" carrier of choice. The Market . . .After growing 6.2% and 7.1% in 1999 and 2000 respectively, world air cargo traffic fell a dramatic 5.9% during 2001. This decline, the worst ever in the modern air cargo industry, was the result of the simultaneous U.S. economic slowdown and the collapse of the "technology bubble" that began in the latter half of 2000. The fall in air cargo traffic continued throughout 2001 and by year-end, major air trade lanes linked to North America, Europe and Asia had contracted 9.7%. On a positive note, signs of a recovery have emerged during the first half of 2002, led by stronger traffic in Asian trade lanes and the U.S. domestic market. World air cargo growth will expand at an average annual rate of 6.4% for the next two decades. Asian air cargo markets will continue to lead the world air cargo industry in average annual growth rates, with the intra-Asian and domestic Chinese markets expanding 8.4% and 10.3% per year, respectively.
A New Era . . . The decision to enter the Cargo market was not easy, however based on the World Air Cargo Forecasts published by Boeing and others in this sector, it was decided by the Altair Board to invest in future of Altair and diversify holdings for our stakeholders. Based in Memphis Tennessee, the world's largest Air Cargo facility, AGL has initially established a presence at the 30 top Cargo destinations in the world fully staffed with logistical and sales personnel offering our clients a complete range of air cargo services. To visit our KMEM facility, click HERE. To enter this market successfully and to minimize the risk and exposure for our stakeholders it was decided to lease facilities and services locally. A contract has been issued to Shand, Stewart & Blythe to provide facilities and ground support at all AGL destinations, minimizing AGL's start-up requirements and reducing risk for our stakeholders.
The Flight Crew . . . AGL will utilize pilots and crews from Altair which utilizes resources reduce operating costs and improve consolidated margins giving the Altair consolidated financial statements a much stronger and greater appeal for investors. In addition to Memphis, the initial AGL destinations will include:
More destinations will be added as the business matures and AWL becomes better established in this highly competitive market.
The Fleet . . . The AGL Fleet consists of a variety of aircraft ranging from short to long haul transports providing an economy of scale and cost efficient transport transport for our clients. Currently the Logistics Fleet consists of 10 aircraft, this will undoubtedly change as time passes and our global needs are better identified. The Fleet Department has completed the bulk of the retrofits with the balance to be completed "soon." For information, details and downloads check out the AGL Fleet Overview Page.
