ANGELS FLY A MILE HIGH
|
LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL (KLAX) TO DENVER INTERNATIONAL (KDEN) February 28, 2004. Ramp time 1930z.
Altair Virtual Airlines 1st online event for 2004 will be a flight from Los Angeles International (KLAX) to Denver International Airport (KDEN). The flight will take us from one of the busiest airports in the world, located in the City of Angels, to the high mountain country of Colorado and the mile high city of Denver. Los Angeles is the main entry port for flights from Asia and Oceania to the United States of America and the point of departure for flights to Europe, Canada, Central and South America, the mid west and the east coast. At Altair Virtual Airlines we consider ourselves a family, and as a family we differ from other VA's in this respect. This flight is dedicated to one of our most valued members, our official Mam, Tettie de Kleine ALT H-77 who has worked tirelessly for Altair. Los Angeles International is a busy place and there are almost 1800 aircraft arrivals/departures every day of the year!
(photo courtesy of Airliners.net and Matheus M. de F. Barbosa, copyright applies, used with permission) Our flight will take us over the Los Angeles escarpment, Mojave Desert and the Rocky Mountains before descending to Denver International Airport. Denver is one of the fastest growing cities in the US and hosts 8.8 million visitors each year, they are attracted to Denver for it's wide open spaces, cultural life and for the fabulous skiing on the nearby Rocky Mountains. Denver is also the stepping off point to the fabled Shandland Resort, an icon in Altair Virtual Airlines and a favourite destination of a select group of Altair pilots that keep in Mr Art Shand's good books so as to enjoy the pleasures available at this exclusive spa!! ZLA ARTCC (Los Angeles) and VZDV ARTCC (Denver) have undertaken to provide ATC coverage for our Event and I would encourage all pilots to visit their websites to familiarise themselves with operations at each airport. FLIGHT PLANNING Ramp time is 1930z for departure at 2000z, depending on ATC directions. As departure could be congested please ensure that you are at the terminal in sufficient time with relevant charts onboard and are familiar with departure procedures with your aircraft ready and configured for take-off. Having your aircraft ready and an ability to comply quickly with ATC directions will ensure an orderly departure from KLAX. Our flight route will be LOOP4. DAG J146 HBU. POWDR5 Detailed route is DAG113.2 MISEN CLARR LAS116.9 ISAAK NOOTN BETHL FREDD DVC114.6 HBU114.9 Distance is approximately 780 nautical miles and a medium jet is recommended and the approximate flight time will be 2 hours. A chart package including airport diagrams, SID and STAR is available here in zipped format. All pilots are encouraged to use voice communication via Roger Wilco or Advanced Voice Client but of course text messaging is also acceptable. Whilst departing KLAX please limit private text messages to a minimum as the workload for pilots taking off can be very heavy and the Pilot in Command may appreciate a clear channel to ask and respond to ATC instructions. Enroute communication will be via the Altair RW channel and if you do not already have the details (IP address, password etc) for the Company channel you can get all the information you need at Altair RW . As log in details to Altair RW depends on the version of Roger Wilco that you use please try connecting before the Fly In to ensure you can connect, you may have to use 1 or other of the different IP combinations. To keep the flight co-ordinated it is requested that all voice communications, outside those with ATC, are conducted exclusively on the Company channel. Pilots that fly on line will be able to log double hours for this Event, and pilots that wish to fly this route offline can also register and credit hours and in fact we have created a page for offline pilots to register at sign up here. Log in to Angels Fly a Mile Higher-Offline Pliots to register.
Well there you have it, all the information you need to enjoy a great flight from Los Angeles, California to Denver, Colorado in the company of your Altair buddies and with what promises to be some quality ATC coverage and who knows, the exclusive Shandland Resort may throw open the doors and welcome arriving pilots at KDEN with some high country hospitality! So what are you waiting for sign up here . Departures will be allocated on a slot system, to ensure an orderly departure. Pilots will be allocated a slot and ZLA ARTCC will clear aircraft according to their allocated position. All registered pilots will receive their positions via email prior to the flight, so ensure that your email address is current. Any questions contact Kim .
